If you have @nym VPN with a seed phrase check whether your app still holds a valid session. I went into the App and it had lost it after an app update. Logging with your Nym phrase will make it work again. Don't get caught off guard. Grandma said: forewarned is forearmed

Oh that sucks! Yeah, like a ZCash wallet, we do recommend backing it up. We can’t access your seed phrase (it’s a private key) after all. That being said, if you have a backup of your old HD, your seed phase may be there.

We at @nym are proud to see @zodl_app with @jswihart get investment in ZCash’s killer wallet. I was at the Zodl team meeting for the Nym/Zcash integration: The cracked team that built the app finally are getting the support they deserve. Privacy season has just begun!

I'm excited about @nym! Reasons: 1. Mixnets are a fundamental security upgrade for the Internet. 2. @harryhalpin and the Nym team are true cypherpunks and scientists. 3. The Shielded Labs engineers just told me they got our Crosslink prototype semi-working over Nym. :-)

When @zooko tells me @harryhalpin and the Nym team are true cypherpunks I do two things: 1. I listen. 2. I get long Nym. P.s remember when the ZEC/USD chart looked like this? Remember what happened next...?

I thought VPNs were private

NordVPN states that 5 million email addresses got leaked This is why everyone is getting “hacked” today on X https://t.co/gKFryzKQhQ

I paid for @nym in Zcash. I never gave them any email address, and there is no record in any database or blockchain linking my TCP/IP connections over Nym to anything else about me.

Truly private payments is nowhere near solved yet. You can only think its solved if you haven't thought about scale + privacy hard enough. Fun times ahead in making privacy real :) - Gotta kill trial decrypt -> Out of band (?) - Gotta preserve recoverability + liveness in OOB failure => PIR - Make new payment flows that support this - Need user-privacy during fee market updates -> Private programmability for just your fees. You just update at tx-submit time. - Want pre-confs / private insurance for your counterparty? Add to your limited programmability. (Couple methods) - Private programmability for custody methods. (Threshold multisig isn't enough) - How do we pay the RPC's privately? - How do you aggregate the ZKP's to preserve high throughput - Get the recursion efficiently working in a heterogenous mempool environment. - Now do it PQ - Go fix the compact block gossip tricks for this now - PQ addresses are too big -> ID system + PIR

Interesting, do all these need to be solved for, or can a partial set provide some privacy? Does it need to be complete before we can enable partially private payments?

Ah no, base ZCash-style tech provides a lot, and we should get more people using it! But theres two parts that must be solved: - Several parts can't scale-as is. (Hence all the ongoing work streams like Tachyon, PR, and consensus-scaling) - early stage altruism + patron incentivization (RPCs, etc) - Metadata leaks (AKA IP, request data. being worked on in many ways. Tor/Nym, PIR, SGX)

after zec my next privacy play is NYM $15M mcap, down by 62% this year - yes, we invest at the bottom, not at top ;) my cheatcode: invest in privacy and cypherphunks vision.

decentralization in the limit can not work without privacy the premise of a blockchain is that if no single entity can obtain controlling power of the system, then everyone is on the same trust guarantees and can transact peer-to-peer but this is a shallow and first-order view of blockchains consider as a thought experiment the most decentralized blockchain ever created by usual norms. client distribution, stake distribution, geographical distribution, token distribution, no foundation entity there is no social or technical source of failure on any dimension and many degrees of redundancy all around, recursively. the perfect blockchain. ok but there's still a massive flaw when you interact with the chain, what are you using? some internet connected device that talks to another internet connected device and so on those devices all leak information ranging from device ID to network/ISP activity to onramps a sophisticated actor with better information seeking systems is then not on the same trust rails as you had assumed, they have control over you because you are leaking information and worse, this is a compounding risk. the more you are not private, the stronger the information graph gets exponentially since it's a network a perfectly decentralized but transparent chain converges to a system where: - yes, the protocol can't censor you - but any sufficiently resourced actor can build a complete map of your economic life - use off-chain coercion (legal, social, physical) to achieve the same effect as censorship you might think this is overly theoretical and stretched but it already happens today encrypt the money

Have you heard of anonymous networking solutions like Tor and @nym that operate BENEATH the blockchain layer to make sure no IP address, device, etc when you access a blockchain? @nym mixnet also prevents timing info and adds in fake traffic! https://t.co/yQjs5kcOEL zillionz

I find nothing more exciting than separating the money from the state. this is the first time in the history we can do that: zcash, nym, aztec, nock. I am giving you the stack :)

Thanks Brendan! Is there anything which can be done about the tracking from an ISP? As much as encryption is helpful, it seems like something which would slow surveillance down, rather than stop it - but I guess I can only do so much.

There's no silver bullet (consider mobile operator radio towers which track you by design). Have a look at @nym, Tor, and multi-no-logging VPN approaches.

Nym is one of the best privacy tools on the market today, and yes, of course they accept Dash. Join us in under an hour for a great chat on privacy, both for the web and for money!

Could you live on crypto alone? Joël Valenzuela has, for about ten years now: paid only in crypto since 2015, no bank account since 2016. A lot of that has run on Dash, a privacy-focused digital cash coin built for fast, everyday payments. He's dropping in to talk about life…

My bet is on @nym for being the decentralized VPN behind @MidnightNtwrk. Any takes? $NIGHT is taking off, about to do a $ZEC … privacy season is just starting.

If only there was a decentralized VPN, something that Midnight could integrate and be annouced at a close future date....

It's inevitable Zcash holders, node runners and miners will eventually get targeted by state actors. Mixnets like @nym are the solution here. Traditional VPNs are not a solution as they simply switch the burden of trust from the ISP over to them. They are massive honeypots. Tor traffic is easily recognizeable by authorities (making it useless in large markets for privacy like China, Iran, etc.) + vulnerable to sybil attacks + offers weaker privacy than mixnets. You can't have encrypted money without encrypted bandwidth. Zcash 🛡️

I’ve had @Nym VPN for over a year now, and it’s gradually become my standard as the performance has improved over time. I genuinely think it’s the absolute best VPN you can get, and it’s one of the coolest cypherpunk projects out there.
